Ayurveda Diet Recommendations For Each Body Type

By Rebecca Prescott Ayurveda recommends foods for people according to their primary body type. The reason this is done is because it is believed foods can be both healing, and the source of imbalance and difficulties. By eating foods according to our Ayurvedic body type, the belief is that we will accumulate less Ama, or waste, in the body. In Ayurveda, people are classified according to three principles, vata, kapha, and pitta. But it’s important to understand that although we may be dominant in one principle, we actually have all three present in our body. The others are in a smaller ration. Most people will actually be a combination of two of these principles, with the third only playing a minor role. But because we all contain the three, any of them can get out of balance. Pitta Characteristics of Pitta dominant body types * determination * strong willed * good digestion * initiative * energy * passionate about many things Ayurveda’s Pitta constitution is calmed by cooling foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables. Bitter green vegetables like watercress, parsley, collards and most greens suit pitta. Fruits that suit pitta body types include sweet berries, sweet apples and apricots, coconut, figs, mango, sweet oranges and pineapples, plums, watermelon, pomegranates, and prunes. Other cooling foods include most dairy products, though sour cream, hard cheeses, and yoghurt don’t really suit pitta due to their being too high in fat, salt, or sour. But dairy that suits pitta includes milk, cottage cheese, soft cheeses, and ice cream! Grains that suit pitta body types include barley, basmati rice, and wheat (unless you are allergic or gluten sensitive). Pitta body types generally like a lot of protein, and they probably need a little more than the other Ayurvedic body types. Spices that are cooling in nature are also important. These include coriander, cumin, mint, parsley, dill and fennel. Garlic should be avoided though as it is too heating. In terms of sweets, Pitta body types should use maple syrup, barley malt, brown rice syrup and honey that is 6 months or less old, preferably raw. Things that can imbalance Pitta body types: * excess heat, hot climates, and hot times of day * humidity * vacations and times when there is increased mobility * excess oil in the diet * too many hot foods, including spicy foods. But this can also mean too many cooked meals * excess caffeine, salt, red meat and alcohol Vata Characteristics of people with a dominant Vata body type: * flexibility * quick mind * creative * always on the go - mentally and physically Dietary choices that support vata aim at grounding this energy-in-motion. Routine is also very helpful, though not naturally something vata body type people will create! Vata people benefit from meditation, warmth, soothing music, taking breaks, and resting (again, not a natural vata inclination!). With regards foods, vata body types should include warming spices, including ginger and cloves, anise, cayenne, cinnamon, garlic, horseradish, caraway, mint, mustard seeds, parsley, cooked onion, paprika, rose water, vanilla, tarragon, thyme and rosemary. People with the vata body type should minimize raw food, including salad, though salads should not be eliminated completely as they provide valuable nutrients. But vata should ground the salad with a dressing made from oil and vinegar, and be aware of the weather at the time of eating it. Being more sensitive to cold, vata’s should have salads on warmer days. Icy cold drinks are not balancing for vata - in fact quite the opposite. Sugar also throws vata types off balance, though vata are lucky in that they can enjoy other sweets. Vata generally love fruit, and it suits their ayurvedic constitution. The exceptions are apples, pears, cranberries, watermelon and dried fruit. Vata types should go for sweet and moist fruit, like mangoes, nectarines, bananas, coconut, fresh figs, peaches, and strawberries. Cooked grains like oatmeal, basmati rice, and brown rice, are very grounding for the vata ayurvedic constitution. Beans (legumes), on the other hand, are not! Beans are cold, dry, and heavy - not the attributes that support vata. Things that can imbalance vata dominant body types include: * a lot of travel, especially by plane * loud noises * constant stimulation * drugs, sugar and alcohol * cold climates (especially extremely cold ones) and cold food * frozen and dried food Kapha Characteristics of people with a kapha dominant body type: * strength * stamina * endurance * groundedness * calm * fluid Kapha body types are not suited to a high protein diet like the Atkins diet. Not only should they avoid too much fat, but also, excessive heavy protein. The kapha quality is already heavy, and although this doesn’t sound great, it is what provides Kapha body types with a wonderful stability and strength. Kapha should have light and low fat protein. Beans, with the exception of soy and soy products, are great for kapha. Soy milk is preferable to dairy though, for kapha. Beans help move kapha’s energy, and digestive system, a bit. Barley is also excellent. In terms of meat, chicken and turkey suit kapha. Kapha body types should have plenty of vegetables, including bitter vegetables, peppers, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, eggplant, lettuce, onions, potatoes, mushrooms, corn cobs, peas, beets, and celery. Dairy is heavy and cooling, and it does not suit the Kapha ayurvedic body type. Light and crispy food, like corn tortillas and popcorn, suit kapha. Kapha people should make sure they have variety in their diet, as kapha body types have a danger of falling into a rut more than others. Asian and Latin American style meals are great for kapha. They are spicy and light, free of dairy, and have plenty of vegetables in them. Things that can imbalance Kapha body types: * inertia * too much fat in the diet, including oil we cook with! * dairy products * not enough stimulation and challenge * not enough variety * not enough exercise * too much bread, iced foods and drinks, and sweets References: Amadea Morningstar and Urmila Desai, The Ayurvedic Cookbook For some great articles on ayurveda, including home remedies, click here. Weight Loss and Disease - It’s Not the Food that’s Killing Us!

By Greg Ryan Whether coming from a close friend, the nightly news or from a letter in the mail, its hard to face the truth at times. Hearing it can really cut to the core of our beings. Today, fitness books are mostly filled with advertisements, pill pushers and unrealistic programs that give people false hope. My intention is to give you real hope and with that youll get straight talk. It is not my intention to force anything on you or to come across in a harsh way. While the words may be tough to hear, understand I dont know how else to say what I have observed for all these years. We Americans have been HAD because we have not received the truth about what it really takes to be fit and to stay healthy. Quick fixes abound, but the truth is there are no quick fixes that really workor that last. It is my responsibility as a fitness professional to provide you with the facts. It is my hope that you read this with an open mind and that you understand if you dont do anything about your health today, tomorrow you may say, If only I had known. Why have I allowed myself to get into this shape? With life comes responsibility and with decisions comes consequences. Its your choice today to do something positive. Tomorrow it may be out of your hands. There are three underlying emotions that keep us from taking better care of ourselves: denial, pride, and laziness. Consciously or subconsciously, this threesome is the root of why most Americans have allowed themselves to get in the shape they are in. Are you one of them? Chances are sooner or later one or all three will be riding with you in the car to the hospital. Have you found yourself saying these things? My diet is not that bad. A few trips to the fast food joint once in awhile wont hurt. My blood pressure is fine today. It wouldnt hurt if I skipped a day of taking my medication. My New Years resolution next month is to get in better shape. Why have I let myself get this out of shape? DENIAL It wont happen to meno way, no how! Unfortunately, it is what we cannot see that is killing us. Our insides are getting eaten away because of our lack of exercise and poor eating habits. Society is so concerned with extreme makeover television shows that we have been caught off guard with the silent killers: heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Even if the outside looks good, the damage is still done inside our bodies. Over time we have made ourselves feel comfortable with certain lifestyle habits. We overlook the long-term consequences of our behaviors. We see things going on around us, but we continue to put off exercise and eating better for another day. Out of the three, Denial is the sneakiest beast of them all. PRIDE Do not let them see you sweat or show any signs of weakness. Ever find yourself saying one of these? If I cannot do it on my own, then I will not do it at all. Just the very fact of having to take better care of me, irritates me. Ill put off my check up until next fall. Ever have any of these thoughts? Denials brother, Pride, may not be the sneakiest, but he is the strongest personality of the boys. Having too much pride costs millions of lives every year in any arena you can imagine, especially in health and the aging process. While pride may be the strongest emotion out of the three, he always seems to lose. His ego gets the best of him and aging finally wins out in the end. LAZINESS Ill start tomorrow on my exercise program. Exercise and eating right takes discipline, and planning. For some, thats too much to ask. If thats you, you may be missing out on a really wonderful healthy quality filled life. But, does that really matter to you? Why is America the fattest nation in the world? Laziness! Its just that simple. If you think a pill, surgery, or wishful thinking is going to replace hard work you have been HAD by the media. It takes hard consistent work. Having Lazy as a friend may cost you your life someday. Why are most countries healthier and thinner than us? They are more active and more resourceful. Denial, pride and lazy can be the end for some, but it does not have to be that way for you, if you start now. Sometimes we can think too much and talk ourselves out of things, instead of just doing it right. Yes, food is a big part of the epidemic we face today with diabetes, obesity and heart disease. However, the real things that are killing us are inside of you already. Dont let Pride, Denial and Lazy eat you alive. Quit making dumb excuses not to feel better. Let people like me help you. I dont even know you and I have to believe you want it in your heart to feel better, lose some weight and have more confidence. Remember, you are not promised tomorrow! LOSE WEIGHT IMMEDIATELY! Who Are You — Can I Trust You?

By Esther Smith Organized crime aside, beating a prospect over the head is not a reasonable sales tactic. Years ago I was taught that in order to make a withdrawal, I first had to make a deposit; maybe many deposits depending on my immediate request. This theory should apply to our sales and marketing strategies. When we make a sales call we want something — and we want it even before the person says hello. Script reading might have worked years ago but marketing today requires a deposit of trust-building strategies before you ask for their money. Further, scripts come off in a business-language that seems to trigger the person you have on the phone with a big caution sign. Their guard is up and their wallet is out of reach. Part of the problem is the fact that we lose something in a phone conversation: eye contact, body language, and facial expression. Our words are offered with minimal cues. We should be taking a lesson from those annoying telemarketing calls. They insist on trying to make a withdrawal before they have invested a nano-second of trust. And have you ever tried to listen to someone who talks at super speed? Who told them they had 20 seconds to make their point? Trust begins with you. Build a dialogue. Let go of the idea that a sale can only happen if you control the conversation. Put your offer on hold and engage in conversation without assuming anything. I like the first part of a phone call to be largely my prospects voice, not mine. A few pointed questions can bring this about and humor will disarm a skeptic every time. George Burns, the famous comedian once said, The most important thing in life is sincerity if you can fake that, youve got it made. It seems today, that most businesses are missing the joke. The words sales and trust are not generally used in the same text. With good reason online buyers are skeptical, even cynical about being taken. Buyers dont trust sellers because they fear sellers have only their own interests at heart. Trust-based selling sounds like an oxymoron and they have good reason to be suspicious. Today, every business with a ticket price over $1000 needs to become a matchmaker between their product and the needs of their buyer. Their trust in your words will confirm your knowledge, skill or competency. This instills confidence and the absence of suspicion. So, who are you and can I trust you? These two questions underscore all business transactions; particularly in conducting business on the Internet where face-to-face interactions of the real world are absent. People do business with people. Help your prospects get to know and trust you by letting your passion and personality come across in your conversation, as well as your professionalism. Communication isnt the only ingredient for developing trust, but it is a critical one. Exuding trust can be learned, and when consistently a part of your communication, will measurably increase your influence in all your sales as well as other aspects of your life. Alvin Toffler, Author of The Third Wave said The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. 2005 Esther Smith About the Author: Smith publishes a syndicated Newsletter every Sunday, subscribe here: http://quikonnex.com/channel/page/esmith She is a member of Profit Masters Team the power and simplicity of this business earns $3k - $5k weekly in a very short time. http://www.exec-lifestyle.com Creating wealth is fun if there is no struggle attached to it. Great Relationships: What to Do When You Have Drifted Apart

By Jeff Herring Picture, if you will, the following scene: A man and woman, somewhere in the great expanse of middle age, walk into a sandwich shop and sit down. They don’t speak to each other. They do speak to the waiter when he comes to take their order. And this is the last time they speak, to each other or anyone else, the entire hour they are there. They each have a book, and they proceed to get lost in reading and eating. Now maybe they had just heard some bad news, or were the parents of 12 kids, hired a sitter and needed some peace and quiet. Maybe. But the feeling you get is that they really have nothing to say to each other. They just look bored. It’s a sad scene. How does something like this happen? You know there must have been a time when there were not enough words for all they wanted to say to each other. I bet there was a time when they could talk all night. How does a couple get from those early days of falling in love to falling into the rut of boredom? I have found that people slowly drift out of love. If it happened all at once, they would be able to react and change. Because it happens slowly, over time, the process just sneaks up on couples. It’s like the story of the frog in hot water: If you put a frog into a pan of boiling water, he’ll do his very best to hop right out. But if you put a frog in a pan of water at room temperature and slowly increase the temperature to a boil, he’ll stay put until it’s too late. According to Florida State University psychology professor Dan Boroto, “The process of falling out of love is the direct result of undisclosed communication.” What that means is that couples no longer talk about feelings, hopes and dreams. The things left unsaid can vary from not really liking carrots, even though your spouse thinks it’s your favorite food, to not talking about how lonely you are. If you recognize your relationship here, it doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily over. Here are things you can do to begin to restore communication: Talk. I know that sounds too simple, and I guess I could make it harder, but that really is where it begins. Take a risk and begin to talk about issues that may have been difficult in the past. Recall the times you were able to talk with each other and simply repeat what you did then. Ask questions. Become curious about your partner’s world. Begin with, “Can we talk about …?” Schedule times to be together and talk. Many couples I know who do this say it gives them something to look forward to when life gets stressful. If you find you can’t break the logjam yourself, it might be time to sit down with a counselor or attend a seminar to give you a jump start. While couples seem to drift apart without knowing it, to grow back together again takes conscious attention and intention. Take some time in the next week to re-establish communication in your relationship. It might make all the difference in the world. Make the Most of Your Money

By Lorraine Pirihi I’m always amazed that so many people spend most of their life at work and totally neglect their personal affairs. Many of the business people I work with want their professional lives to be in order, and admit that their personal affairs are in chaos. They have no systems for handling this most important area. The household paperwork is disorganisedpiled up in a corner of the housesomewhere. They have no idea where they spend their money and often have no plan for their financial future. If you do not organise your personal life, you won’t have much of a future to look forward to. Avoid the excuses that you are too tired, don’t have the time, and don’t know how. Here are several tips to get you started: Set up a filing system to store your paperwork. File your papers in categories: Bank, Car, Children, Home, Medical, Insurance, Investment, Tax, Utilities etc. Organise direct debits for regular bills. Read, sort and action your snail and e-mail daily. This will avoid a big build-up. Make a note in your diary when you need to remember to do things. Check your bank accounts weekly via phone or the Internet to keep tabs on your money. Allocate a particular day and time each week to review your personal affairs. Get educated - attend seminars, read books and listen to information on wealth creation. (Our fortnightly Event Update often advertises worthwhile events that will help you). Having knowledge will make it easier to make decisions and take action. Organising Your Financial Future This area should be top priority. If you do nothing because it’s too much effort well think about this. What would happen if you lose your job, have an accident and receive no income for 6 months? How would you (and your family) survive financially? Do you have your insurances in order? Where will you be in the next five years? Maybe retired and on a pension? Or perhaps you have superannuation you hope will be enough to live on? Unfortunately too many people are under false illusions about how superannuation will be the answer for a secure retirement. Hope is not enough. You have to be pro-active and seek out people who can help you. But be careful who you take advice from and what is the motivation behind them “selling” you their ideas. Educating yourself on how to make the most of your hard-earned money so you can create wealth should be a high priority. After all, if you’re not interested in securing your financial future, who is? The Final Word If you take control of your personal affairs you will have peace of mind and know that you are making things happen. I once heard someone say: Some people make things happen, others watch things happen and others wonder what happened. What do you choose to do? DMAE: Facelift In A Jar, Or Fantastic Fraud?

By Michele Buccia As a practicing Aesthetician one of the biggest skin product questions I get is - what is DMAE and how does it work? Over the past several years, the interest in DMAE has skyrocketed - in part due to the amazing results many women have claimed to receive after beginning to use it. (Dimethylaminoethanol) has been referred to as a facelift in a jar, however, contrary to what many people will tell you, it remains a mystery as to how DMAE topical actually works to firm the skin. What is being studied is the possibility that DMAE protects the skins cell membrane and through extending the cells life, contributes to plumping of the skin. And Plump skin usually means a fuller, healthier looking face - hence the reputation as a quick, easy and inexpensive home facelift solution. Many websites and companies which sell DMAE cream claim that it does improve the skins firmness and tone while increasing smoothness and brightness. And there are many women who have used DMAE claiming this to be true. For many consumers, DMAE has proven to be the elusive “fountain of youth” amongst the many creams, lotions and promises that preceded it on the marketplace. The best thing about DMAE is that whereas most creams can make the appearance of lines and wrinkles less noticeable - DMAE has actually been proven to have a positive effect on sagging of the facial skin. The results I have observed are never quite that of a face lift but it is possible that DMAE can reduce further sagging - really providing users with a lift - both literally and figuratively..:-) Like anything else in the beauty and skin industry, you have to be careful when buying new products to ensure you are getting good and authentic ingredients from a reputable company. We have all heard the stories of fly by night operations arriving on the scene to “service” the latest fad, only to disappear weeks, if not months later leaving lots of disappointed customers in their wake. The key is to ALWAYS be an informed consumer - make product choices based on good research, recommendations and a keen understanding of your needs and goals when it comes to your skin and appearance concerns. As a side note - for those clients who have problems applying a topical cream or lotion, DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin C Ester also come in pill form and have some amazing other stated benefits as well. Among them are: DMAE: Increases your energy, and Memory/Learning Cognitive skills. Alpha Lipoic Acid: Protects your liver and brain function, reduces risk of cataracts. Vitamin C Ester: Promotes a healthy immune system and stronger bones. Do we know these to be true? Only time will tell, but if proven through additional research, these ingredients may have many exciting anti-aging properties for your entire body, further reinforcing my belief that they should be an integral part of your present skin and beauty regimen. Michele Buccia is a practicing aesthetician and contributing editor to http://www.beginwiththeskin.com. She writes extensively about skin care issues facing her clients and provides a free resource for everyone interested in having beautiful skin. Best Beauty Tips For A Healthy And Natural Look

By David Maillie ‘Beauty is skin deep’, so goes the good old saying. But, that does not rob the charm of enhancing your looks. So, hey there, beauty conscious, there’s just no harm in having some of the best beauty tips up your sleeves. For looking and feeling beautiful is a sign of health and happiness. And in an age where looking good spells confidence and success, it’s vital that you have the best beauty tips handy. Pamper Your Body The first secret to true beauty is a natural body glow. Try a refreshing exfoliate with a homemade mix of olive oil, sea salt or sugar. Dry brushing your body, preferably with a natural bristle brush before a bath. It helps to stimulate the glands. A Little Thought for your Eyes, Hands and Feet - Moisturise your hands and feet regularly. Don’t forget to file your nails and apply nail polish. - Free your eyes of the tired look simply with a spoon. Keep it in the fridge and apply to the eyelids. - Once you have ensured a healthy body, be in fashion with the best make-up tips. Magic of Natural Make-Up The secret of smart make-up is to keep it natural. But often unhygienic and wrong use of make-up causes harm. Here are the best beauty tips to avoid a make-up mess: - Eye care: To ensure healthy eyes change your mascara every three months, eye shadows every six to twelve months and sharpen your eye pencil regularly - Mascara basics: To avoid mascara smudging, apply a thin layer to the top lashes only and then use an eyelash brush - Natural glow: A gel blush or cream gives a more natural look than a powder - Brow beauty: For a natural look, eyebrows must not look pencil thin. Use a definer for extra volume. - Eyeliner tips: Use liquid liner instead of a pencil, to avoid smudging in the crease of the lid - Foundation fashion: While choosing a concealer or foundation, check the shade on the palm side of your wrist. It tells whether the shade would look natural on you. Haute Hair Tips A homemade hair pack is better than shampooing. Natural stuff like apple cider vinegar keeps shampoo toxins at bay. The right hairdo makes the correct fashion statement. Always discuss your face shape with your hairdresser, to decide on a style Do’s ‘N’ Don’ts Common beauty blunders arise from ignorance. Here are the best beauty tips to be better informed: - Avoid soap and switch to natural cleansers - Wash your face often - Use an eye cream regularly - Drink lots of water - Never forget a sunscreen - Use natural beauty packs Mind Matters Last but not the least; you just can’t glow unless its heart felt. So, the best beauty tips include doing something you enjoy whenever you can. Always take a break, chat with friends, forget your worries, set your mind free and just watch the wonders. Fishing Rods - What Type Do I Need?

By Trevor Kugler Choosing the correct fishing rod for your favorite fishing situations can be a fairly difficult task. There are all kinds of things written on the fishing rod itself, and all of them have a different “feel”. I’m going to attempt to clear up some of the confusion for you. I’ve seen many anglers that have one fishing rod that they use for all of their fishing. This is a mistake and a sure fire sign that said angler doesn’t catch many fish. I’m not suggesting that you should have a locker full of 50 different rods, but you should have two or three available for different situations. The type of fishing rod that you need really has to do with the kind and size of fish that you’re fishing for. If you’re fishing for Crappie, you need a different rod than when you fish for Steelhead. Fishing rods come is the basic actions listed below. This information is printed (in very small lettering) on the rod itself, directly above the handle, along with suggestions as to lure and line sizes. The bottom line is that you must have different fishing rods for different fishing situations. In most cases the same fishing rod should not be used in all fishing situations. Ultra light Action - these rods are used for fishing very small lures. Ultra light rods are perfect for small stream and river fishing, such as when you’re wading. The heavier the current, the longer rod you will want. Ultra light rods are a great choice for trout and pan fish. Light Action - Light action rods are used for the same situations as ultra light action rods. If you’re just starting out, start with a light action rod and work your way to ultra light. Again, these rods are perfect for trout and pan fish fishing. Medium Action - Medium action rods are right in the middle of the scale (imagine that). Medium action rods are to be used when fishing larger rivers for larger fish. I personally use medium action rods for my walleye and smallmouth bass fishing in Canada. Medium action is also a good size for trolling smaller lures. Medium Heavy Action - This size rod is great for trolling most lures. Medium heavy rods are also great for most salmon and steelhead fishing. As the name suggests, these rods are to be used in situations where you’re after bigger fish (10 to 20 pounds as a general example), although it’s also a favorite size for large mouth bass anglers. Heavy Action - Obviously, these are your big boys. Largemouth bass fishermen will use rods this size to fish heavy cover and the like. Also, when you’re fishing for big pike and catfish, heavy action rods are a must. These rods are used for really big fish (over 20 pounds as a general example). This action rod is also used for heavy trolling, such as that done with downriggers. As mentioned earlier, the bottom line is that the same fishing rod shouldn’t be used for all of your fishing. That is of course supposing that you don’t fish the same body of water for the same type of fish all the time. If you do only fish one body of water for a single type of fish, then 1 fishing rod will probably work just fine for you. An example would be myself. I’m primarily fish for trout in the same river and prefer to use ultra light gear. One rod doesn’t cut it for me. I have to have two, because I’ve found that when the water is high, I need a longer rod. So I simply switch to my six foot six inch rod when the water is high (such as in the spring). The point being that in my case although I primarily fish the same body of water for the same type of fish, I still need a choice of fishing rods. Cordless Phone Headsets

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alison_Cole]Alison Cole When buying cordless phone headsets, you must first take into consideration the comfort factor. It doesn’t really matter the brand you choose and what feature it has — ultimately what counts is whether you are comfortable with it or not. Experts say that the best cordless phone headsets are a total waste of the money if the design of the headset is not perfect, and you are not comfortable wearing it. For example, if you are concerned about messing up your hair, than rather than purchase a headband style headset, you might prefer an over the ear model. Microphones can be options to consider as well. Some microphones are spongy and can affect your peripheral vision, where as boom mikes are cushion-free. It is important that you try on any cordless phone headset that you buy to make sure you can adjust it to fit you perfectly. The microphone should be easy to adjust, and you should be able to hear your caller without any difficulty. Likewise the person you are speaking with should be able to hear you. You can set volume controls, so make sure that you test that as well. One of the latest models available is the plug-and-play, Plantronics Voyager - 510-USB Bluetooth Headset System. Ideal for home or office is offers multipoint technology that allow you to switch from Bluetooth enabled soft phones and mobile phones. You will also be notified of any incoming calls via the headset. It has a noise-canceling microphone and you can roam up to 33 feet away from your Bluetooth device. It also offers about 6 hours of talk time.
